For UK contractors
Day rates in. Tax picture out. No mystery.
Track contracts, day rates, and tax withheld at source. TaxHalo blends it all into a live estimate so you know where you stand — inside or outside IR35.
No accountancy degree required. Free to start.
What you’re dealing with
- Multiple contracts, sometimes overlapping, often with different day rates.
- Tax withheld at source (CIS, umbrella, or deemed payments) that needs accounting for.
- IR35 status that can change the picture significantly.
- Self Assessment, payments on account, and the urge to just “deal with it later”.

Common contractor questions
Does TaxHalo handle CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) deductions?
Yes. If your payments have tax withheld at source — common in construction and contracting — TaxHalo records those deductions alongside your income so you can see at a glance what’s already been paid to HMRC.
How does TaxHalo handle IR35?
You can mark each engagement as inside or outside IR35. The estimate reflects the difference clearly, so you can see what a status change actually means for you. TaxHalo doesn’t make the IR35 determination for you — that’s for you and your engager.
What about umbrella company income?
You can record umbrella income with its withheld tax and NI, just like any other source. It feeds into your overall estimate.
Can I include expenses I pay personally?
Yes, where they’re allowable. TaxHalo suggests common categories as you go, and you stay in control of what’s claimed.
Do I have to submit through TaxHalo?
No. You can keep everything organised and file however you prefer. Direct submission to HMRC is available on the Growth plan when you’re ready.
